RUB-A-DUB DANCE #4
Scientist • Papa Michigan • General Jah Mikey
Friday, December 4, 2026 | Downtown Los Angeles
Dub Siren HiFi returns with a proper late-night rub-a-dub session featuring Jamaican dub pioneer Scientist, legendary toaster Papa Michigan, and celebrated singjay General Jah Mikey.
Joining them are General Zooz of Reggae Rajahs, Mello Banton, Ryo Vibes, and the full Dub Siren HiFi crew, all powered by our heavyweight, custom-built stereophonic 2-stack sound system.
One sound. One dance. No stage barrier. Artists and audience share the same floor, hearing and feeling the same bass pressure. Come experience sound-system culture up close: deep rhythms, live microphone delivery, and dub mixed by one of the music’s true innovators.
THE ARTISTS
SCIENTIST
One of dub’s most influential engineers, Scientist helped shape the sound of reggae and dancehall through his groundbreaking work at King Tubby’s and Channel One. His connection with Papa Michigan reaches back to Michigan & Smiley’s classic recordings. On December 4, he takes the controls to mix the session live.
PAPA MICHIGAN
As one half of Michigan & Smiley, Papa Michigan helped define an era with Studio One’s 1979 anthem “Rub-A-Dub Style” and classics including “One Love Jam Down” and “Diseases.” This is a rare opportunity to experience his unmistakable delivery on a full-scale sound system, with Scientist at the mixing desk.
GENERAL JAH MIKEY
Raised around King Tubby and Scientist in Jamaica, General Jah Mikey developed his craft on legendary sound systems including Jack Ruby Hi Power, King Jammy’s, Kilimanjaro, and Gemini. His combination of singing and toasting brings a direct connection to Jamaica’s foundation sound-system tradition.
THE RUB-A-DUB EXPERIENCE
Born in Kingston in the late 1970s, rub-a-dub pairs heavy basslines and rolling reggae rhythms with MCs delivering original rhymes and improvised lyrics. It helped lay the foundation for dancehall and continues to echo through bass music worldwide.
Rub-A-Dub Dance #4 brings that spirit to DTLA: a shared dance floor, a full sound system, and artists responding to the music and the crowd in real time.
